An EORI (Economic Operators Registration and Identification) number is a unique customs identifier used across the EU and UK. It is required for any business or individual that imports or exports physical goods into or out of the EU or UK customs territory.
You need an EORI if you are named as importer or exporter on a customs declaration, or if you act as a customs agent making declarations on behalf of others. You do not need one if you only sell digital goods or services, or if you use a customs agent who submits declarations under their own EORI.
E-invoicing (electronic invoicing) is the structured digital exchange of invoice data between businesses and tax authorities. The EU's ViDA (VAT in the Digital Age) directive is introducing mandatory e-invoicing requirements across member states on a phased timeline from 2024 to 2030.
EORI validation checks the number's format against the country's official pattern: a 2-letter country code prefix followed by up to 15 alphanumeric characters. Versys supports format validation for all EU member states and the UK (HMRC).
